Tougher Targets, Better Results? Rethinking Performance and Engagement
The FT recently covered how some companies are tightening performance management. Stricter targets, sharper reviews, and a renewed focus on results are all back on the agenda.
The aim is clear: drive higher performance in a competitive market.
But is this the best way forward? HR leaders know that setting the bar high can sharpen focus, yet it can just as easily dent morale if employees feel under constant pressure.
Engagement and trust are fragile; once lost, they’re hard to win back.
For business leaders, the challenge is striking the right balance.
How do you encourage accountability without creating a culture of fear?
And how do you measure success, by hitting short-term numbers or by building sustainable performance through an engaged workforce?
We’d love to hear your take.
Will a tougher stance on performance deliver results, or will it backfire when it comes to employee engagement?
Thank You
